Year 6 Enjoy a Taste of Secondary School Life

Our Year 6 pupils recently enjoyed a series of taster sessions delivered by colleagues from The Cedars Academy, giving them an exciting insight into life at secondary school.

The visit began with an assembly led by Associate Principal Mr Rolfe, who spoke to pupils about the transition to secondary school and some of the key differences they can expect. He also discussed the importance of positive learning habits, including good posture, listening carefully and developing confidence when speaking in front of others.

As part of the session, pupils were introduced to the role that public speaking plays at The Cedars Academy. They learned how students are encouraged to memorise and perform poetry before joining together to recite Invictus.

Year 6 then took part in a mathematics session led by Mr Gadhia. The lesson introduced pupils to algebra and gave them the opportunity to explore concepts that many would not normally encounter until secondary school. By the end of the session, they were confidently solving a range of algebraic problems and demonstrating excellent mathematical thinking.

The visit concluded with an energetic PE lesson led by Mrs Pugh. Pupils learned the basic rules and skills of handball, including passing, shooting and movement, before putting their new knowledge into practice in a friendly game.

The sessions provided a valuable opportunity for pupils to experience different aspects of secondary school life and helped to build confidence ahead of their transition next year. We would like to thank The Cedars Academy for taking the time to visit and create such an engaging and enjoyable experience for our Year 6 pupils.
