Pupils Get a Behind-the-Scenes Look at School Extension

The visit formed part of a wider construction and sustainability programme delivered in partnership with Willmott Dixon. Throughout the project, every year group has taken part in activities designed to introduce pupils to careers in construction, engineering and sustainability.

For the site visit, pupils were equipped with their own personal protective equipment, including high‑visibility jackets and hard hats, before receiving a safety briefing from the construction team. They were then guided around the site, giving them a unique opportunity to see the internal structure of the extension and gain a better understanding of how a large building project comes together.

From a higher vantage point, pupils were able to appreciate the scale of the development and see the exciting new facilities that will soon become part of school life. Throughout the tour, they asked thoughtful questions about the building work and the many careers involved in delivering a project of this size.

The site visits built on a range of learning activities that have taken place across the school. Younger pupils designed eco‑friendly homes inspired by The Three Little Pigs, Years 3 and 4 carried out sustainability audits and Years 5 and 6 took part in a large‑scale engineering challenge, mirroring real construction roles and responsibilities.

The experience helped bring classroom learning to life and sparked plenty of curiosity. Who knows? It may even have inspired some of our future builders, engineers and designers.
