A week of wonderful poetry

Last week, our pupils immersed themselves into the wonderful world of poetry as part of a special week of activities celebrating National Poetry Day.

This year's theme, ‘Wonder,’ encouraged children to explore creativity, imagination and the world around them through a range of poetry-inspired experiences.

Throughout the week, each class studied and performed a different poem, using actions, expression and carefully designed props to bring their chosen pieces to life. The celebrations culminated in a special Poetry Slam, where pupils performed in front of their classmates before later showcasing their work to parents and carers.

The performances highlighted both the confidence and creativity of our pupils. From Year 1's recitation of Open a Book by Jane Baskwill to Year 6's powerful performance of The Tyger by William Blake, accompanied by a large handmade tiger mask, every class embraced the opportunity to perform.

Pupils also took part in a BBC live lesson linked to the popular 500 Words writing competition. Hosted by Sir Lenny Henry, the session inspired children to develop their own ideas and stories while celebrating the power of words and imagination.

We were incredibly proud of the enthusiasm shown by all pupils during the week. They relished the chance to experiment with words and language, whilst also developing their confidence in delivering a performance!
